Vashon
First you have to get to the island of Vashon. A map is attached to these directions that
gives you a feel for where Vashon is located.
You can get ferry schedule information from the website www.wsdot.wa.gov/ferries/. The car ferry goes from the Fauntleroy ferry
dock in West Seattle to the north Vashon ferry dock. It is about a 15 minute trip and they run reasonably often but on
a schedule dictated by use patterns (e.g., commuting).
[ You can get directions to the Fauntleroy ferry dock from the web
site, from maps, or by calling us. In
fact, you might want to call us about some details on the queue (which is often
on the street at peak times … and easy to drive right on past if you don’t know
what you’re looking for). Of course, if
you try to cut in up nearer to the front of the line you will be ‘informed’ by
a number of interested onlookers who will set you straight! ]
There is passenger only (PO) ferry from downtown Seattle, but it
does not run on weekends and is basically a commuter ferry. It is delightful if the timing works
out. We would have to coordinate on
this if you intend to take it.
Our house
The map shows a roughly-drawn green line from the ferry dock to
our house to give you an idea of where you are heading. The house is indicated by the yellow
symbol. It is about a 15 minute drive,
and about 5 miles. The details are:
·
Go South about 3
miles on Vashon Hwy to Cove (just before town).
·
Go right (west)
on Cove about 1-1/2 miles.
·
On Cove, pass the
small airport (on right), pass 115th Ave, then turn right (north) on
121st Ave. This will take you in about 1/2 mile to merge with
Westside Highway, going north.
·
Go past the old
Colvos Store building (on left) and in 100 ft you will see a group of
mailboxes. Turn left (west) onto Ober Beach Rd SW. This is a narrow gravel
road. If a car comes up while you are going down, there are several places
where one of you can pull over.
·
Near the bottom
look for the first driveway on the right – it has the number #12804 on a post
along with a ‘sun’ mosaic. That's us – it’s the first house you come to, but
you won't quite see the house yet unless you happen to go past the driveway.
·
Park in the
driveway or across from it off the road, walk up the driveway and come down the
path. If it’s dark, bring a flashlight
if you have one with you, though hopefully the path lights will be on.
See
you soon,
Dave
